Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) (8.7/10) dir. Kyle Balda

  1. Minions: The Rise of Gru is the latest film in the Despicable Me franchise. It tells the story of a young Gru’s attempt to join a group of super villains, the problems he encounters, and his minion friends coming to the rescue.
  2. There is a reason why the Minions are the highest grossing animated film franchise of all time: the are simply awesome. They are so funny and entertaining and keep audiences laughing hysterically. Seeing the film in theaters was amazing. The audience was cracking up non-stop throughout and the ending nearly garnered a standing ovation.
  3. The film relies on a lot of tropes of other types of movies including kung-fu and superhero and as a result, it’s not super unique but I don’t care it’s hilarious.
  4. Ultimately, there is likely not another film franchise out there that is quite as hilarious as the minions. This film is another gem in the franchise. The film teaches of the importance of team work (like pretty much every animated film does these days).
